Switching things up around here a little bit.
Funky Music Friday has morphed into Sunday's Songbird.
I got the idea from another beautiful weekly music blogger over at the free spirit chronicles. She turned her "Tuesday Tunes" into "Sunday's Songbird", and I instantly fell in love with the name. I knew I had to adapt it. Thanks, Cam, for the inspiration ;-)
This weeks song is great - I love it. Then again, it's from "my era". Can't go wrong with 60's political rock, can you? lol
I chose this song today, Feb 13, because we're on the eve of Valentine's Day. A day that I've had a hard time with for the past 13 years. Each year as this day approaches I feel the anxiety in my stomach growing; like a silent storm waiting for it's time to destroy. This year the day happens to fall on the "back to work after 9 days of leave" Monday; which adds to my anxiety for it's own reasons, making this year harder then most. And each year when I attempt to broach my fears and issues with my husband about this particular day, he doesn't really take me seriously. Gives me a quick "Nah, everything will be ok, you'll see" and he moves on. Not really the compassion and empathy I need. And when I bring THAT up, he gets defensive, panics, and becomes desperate to backtrack and "fix" ... which is also not helpful.
Over and over and over again, each year
he doesn't believe, we're on the "Eve of Destruction"
Eve of Destruction ~Barry McGuire
the eastern world, it is explodin'
violence flarin', bullets loadin'
you're old enough to kill, but not for votin'
you don't believe in war, but what's that gun you're totin'
and even the Jordan river has, bodies floatin'
but ya tell me over and over and over again my friend
ah, you don't believe, we're on the eve of destruction.
yea
ah, don't you understand, what I'm trying to say?
can't you see the fears, I'm feeling today?
if the button is pushed, there's no running away
there'll be no one to save, with the world in a grave
take a look around you boy, it's bound to scare you boy
and ya tell me over and over and over again my friend
ah, you don't believe, we're on the eve of destruction.
yea
ah, my blood's so mad, feels like coagulatin'
i'm sittin' here just, contemplatin'
i can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation
and a handful of Senators, don't pass legislation
and marches alone, can't bring integration
when human respect is, disintegratin'
this whole crazy world, is just too frustratin'
and ya tell me over and over and over again my friend
ah, you don't believe, we're on the eve of destruction.
yea
ah, think of all the hate, there is in Red China
take a look around, to Selma Alabama!
you may leave here, for four days in space
but when you return, it's the same old place
ah, the poundin' of the drums, the pride and disgrace
you can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace
hate your next door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace
and ya tell me over and over and over and over again my friend
ah, you don't believe, we're on the eve of destruction.
ah no no you don't believe, we're on the eve of destruction.
